I was in my car waiting on my sister while she was shopping, when I heard the car radio blurt out Dr. David Jeremiah’s voice. Then it seemed that everything stood still, and my complete attention was turned to Dr. Jeremiah’s message. What caught most of my attention as I listened intently to his message was the part where Dr. Jeremiah said that it took several years before Joseph got his promotion from being a jail keeper to a palace keeper (pharoah) as told to us in the book of Genesis 37-45.
GOD is sovereign over all, and HE does things in HIS own good and perfect time, and in HIS own good and perfect way.
Then Dr. Jeremiah told of the time when he was studying for the ministry; and most of his classmates went out soon after they graduated. Dr. Jeremiah, however, continued with his seminary studies. He stayed to finish his “training” despite the deployment of most of his peers. So, in the LORD’s own timing, Dr. Jeremiah got his ministry going! He waited on the LORD GOD’s own good and perfect timing!
This all leads to my story (Jeremiah, Joseph, and Me). I do not claim anything similar to Dr. Jeremiah, or Joseph (Genesis 39-41), except that the blessed LORD showed me tender mercies, after the many “squandered” (prodigal) years, 39 to be exact (from when the LORD called me to HIMSELF on June 1980).
The LORD GOD, sovereign over all, and knows all things, saw my pitiful state, wasting all those years for myself, and showed me infinite mercies and grace in CHRIST JESUS; and moved my sinful heart to turn around, and by HIS grace alone, am pursuing things of other worldly (heavenly) importance.
It was a sigh of relief when I set my face on serving the LORD fully, but it was also somewhat lamentable to realized that those who were your peers have gone on ahead and looked successful in their many endeavors. The good LORD GOD has blessed them and continue to bless them. At times, I feel envious to their successes in the ministry. But I keep reminding myself of what the LORD JESUS said to Peter when he looked around on the other disciple, “If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? Follow thou me.” (John 21:22).
Yours truly is now giving out good news tracts, attending church services, praying for the different pastors and church members (the LORD JESUS’ flocks). Although there are times when I feel like I’m in a catch up mode. But despite that, the blessed LORD guides me along.
