Caught Sleeping On The Job

“Ye are the light world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” (Matthew 5:14).

I was at the public library this morning to try and get some much needed Bible reading/study time. But my friend showed up and we got to talking. We talked about the events that ensued during our street preaching ministry on Saturdays. And he cracked a joke because he knew how I was bothered by the proliferation of the other religious group (aka [also known as] JWs [I call nick name them Johnny Walkers]). I see them almost on every corner in our area. He said that one day, he woke up and went to look outside and when he drew the curtains open, he saw a whole bunch of JWs outside!

Even though that was a joke, it is an ironic truth. But the sad things is they have their “kingdom hall” all over also. They have the renovated former theater made into their “kingdom hall”. And on Saturdays (I think) they come out in droves after their service. I even saw them doing door-to-door visitation. I am all for religious freedom. That is not my point. Somehow I feel like the other religious groups have been busy, doing what we are suppose to be doing; and they are doing it very aggressively. While it looks like, we who believe in the SON of GOD, CREATOR, SAVIOUR of the world, has been slouching, slacking off, caught sleeping (so to speak).

“And HE cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, what, could ye not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26:40-41).

The enemy, the wicked one is very slick; sly as fox (Song of Solomon2:15, the “little foxes”). He takes advantage of our slump (Matthew 13:25, “But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.”)

I do not know, nor do I claim to know about the evangelism activities of other Bible believing churches here at my place (city where I live), but i am aware of only a handful of people (believers) who go out and do street evangelism (preaching and gospel tract distribution). I know that the LORD has HIS seven thousand (1 Kings 19:18, “Yet I have left ME seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.”). In the meantime, I do not need to sit this seat of knowledge to the chair of complacency when I can still put it in gear every single day (to hand out gospel tracts and proclaim the one and only SAVIOUR who forgives sins to whomever would come to HIM in humble submission (Matthew 11:28).

So please pray the LORD of the harvest to help those slumping and slouching (lulled to sleep with whatever the enemy uses against them/us), and be what they are, the city that is set on a hill!
